Morimura Yuuki

  • Full Name: 守村悠季
  • Birthday: February 11th, 1971
  • Place of Birth: country near Shibata, Niigata
  • Occupation: (at the start) substitute music teacher
  • Nicknames: Honey, Mommy, Mori-san, Homomura
  • Physical appearance: With his 175 cm his hight doesn’t really stand out. While the limbs and body are slender, there’s some meat on the bones. The man himself is vexed with his pale body that doesn’t seem to grow muscles. While a true japanese man, his fluffy hair’s colour is a few shades lighter than black. He has double eyelids and they’re rather big. His nose and mouth aren’t small or big, but nicely formed and straight. The whole face is small and ends in a pointy chin. About his glasses, many have their opinions about them, one less flattering than the other, like practical (Tounoin), unsuiting for Morimura (Igarashi), intellectual (Ikushima) and plain ugly (Sayoko). Nevertheless, what we can be sure of is, that they’re round and  the monture is black. It’s not that he doesn’t have any taste for couture, it’s more like he prefers to spend money on things related to music.
  • Background:
    • Family: Morimura has three older sisters: Fumiko, Yaeko and Chieko. They became orphans when their mother died in Spring 1990. Earlier the father died in a traffic accident. As the only son, Morimura was expected to take over the family farm, but he made a deal with his mother: he would bury his dreams of becoming a professional musician if he failed the entrance exams to Tokyo Arts University. His sister Chieko seems to blame him for this choice. He is uncle to Fumiko’s four children.
    • Music: Morimura became mesmerised by the violin when he witnessed a highschool girl playing by coincidence. He gathered all his courage and convinced his father through his determination to buy him a violin.  To counter his displeased sisters’ words, he practiced the violin everyday. By miracle, he got accepted in Arts University, according to himself, it was thanks to the low application rate that year and his excellent writing test, as his violin test was a disaster. In his first year he accumulated some confidence by getting first prize with Humoresky. He lost all that the next year when he wasn’t even elected with Air on the G string. After graduation he decided to not become a professional violinist and become a teacher instead, considering how his grades weren’t particularly good or bad. His music teacher at the time, Fukuyama Masao, angrily questioned him, is that how he regards himself as a violinist? If so, then become a teacher. After graduation he continued playing the violin even if circumstances were against him. As the concertmaster he was busy with helping others so he could only practice outside on the baseball field or along the riverbed.
    • Fujimi: He joined Fujimi when he entered university, and 3 years later he took over the post as concertmaster from Sudou, who got transferred. As the concertmaster, he is the first to arrive in the civic center to open the door and arrange the chairs, and he is the last to leave to put them back and return the keys. Before Tounoin’s arrival, members would only come on 1 or 2 of the practice days, so he was also busy with rearranging the music scores as they lack instruments. Because Ishida, the manager of Fujimi, is occupied with his coffee shop Mozart, Morimura would take care of his tasks as well.
    • Romantic interests: Until the events of the first volume, his loves have always been one-sided. The novels mention a senpai of highschool and then there’s this 3 year unrequited love for Kawashima. His first kiss was with a cow, his first kiss with a human being happened on the same day he lost his virginity.
  • Personality: The first impression he might give off is that of a good-tempered and helpful man. A bit clumsy maybe but extremely reliable and diligent. However truth is he is very hot-tempered, especially when music and his pride are involved. His pride and stubbornness (to his values) cause him to overwork to the point of exhaustion. Morimura isn’t someone to calculate, his feelings are openly shown on his face. He might be a bit dense, but is very sensitive to others’ feelings and problems. Problem is he doesn’t always know how to handle them and this manifestoes in his health because of his weak nerves. He is also a bit of a coward, not only because he is afraid of scary things. He tends to play down his abilities and gives up before the battle starts, which might be due to his pride that doesn’t allow him to lose. His pride doesn’t obstruct when matters of the heart are concerned, as Morimura Yuuki is a man to love one wholeheartedly once he has decided to, and his pride won’t stop him from telling that person.
  • Relation to Tounoin: In the beginning he was plain hostile towards him, due to jealousy to his genius and due to Kawashima. After the rape this turned into loathing and looking down at Tounoin. Slowly he gets to know the man behind the genius conductor, and comes to appreciate Tounoin as a person who he wants to be close friends with. But witnessing how Tounoin’s feelings for him is influencing his conducting, Morimura agrees to a physical relationship. Half because of helping him out, and half because he can’t deny that it didn’t feel “all that bad” that time. Not long later he finally accepts his own feelings for Tounoin and comes to terms with being stigmatised as a “homo”. This doesn’t mean the end of their problems though. While he’s able of seeing through Tounoin’s poker face that there’s something wrong, he rarely knows how deep Tounoin is troubled, and doesn’t know how to deal with such a Tounoin who rarely discloses his problems as Morimura would get sick with worries. Due to his sensitivity, he would act at times not to see Tounoin’s weak moments. Not because he isn’t able of accepting such a Tounoin, but it’s to spare his feelings, as Tounoin is a proud man. So normally, a relationship with their personalities wouldn’t work out well, since Tounoin isn’t a man easy to understand. But because of their feelings’ absoluteness, these two passionate people will remain together. Fun fact: in theory, Morimura is Tounoin’s senpai (of Arts University) even if they were born in the same year. (due to Jpn school system that starts in April). There’s even proof (a picture) that they walked by each other in the only year that Tounoin attended.
